Miguel Torres Chile suffers only material damage in the earthquake

The Miguel Torres Chile winery, located in Curicó in the area of Maule, was affected by the earthquake measuring 8.8 on the Richter scale that hit Chile in the early morning of Saturday, 27 February 2010.

Miguel Torres Chile has not suffered any human loss and all the workers and their families are fine. An action plan has already been set up to help those families who were most severely affected by the earthquake, providing them with essential items and accommodation for those who have lost their homes.

The winery only suffered material damage, which has yet to be quantified. However, it is estimated that 300 casks were damaged, as well as a 100,000-litre stainless steel tank, agricultural machinery and hundreds of bottles.

Most of the structures at the winery's facilities are in good condition and the Miguel Torres Chile team is already working to restore order. However, due to problems with the electricity supply, it was decided to delay the start of the harvest by one week.

Bodegas Torres will get its winery in Curicó back onto its feet and will work hard to get everything back to normal as soon as possible. It will also urgently send 50,000 euros to the Municipality of Curicó as a contribution to help those most affected by the earthquake.

The Executive President of the Chilean winery, Miguel Torres Maczassek (5th generation of the Torres family and who became President only a few months ago) and his family were in the United States on a business trip at the time of the earthquake, but Miguel junior managed to get back to Chile in order to start on the reconstruction work with the rest of the team.
