Manso de Velasco 2006 Best Chilean Red Wine

The "Guía de Vinos Descorchados" (Uncorked Wine Guide) awarded 95 points to Manso de Velasco 2006 by Viña Miguel Torres, rating it as the Best Red Wine from our country.

Descorchados 2010, one of the leading and most widely renowned wine guides in Chile, produced by the wine critics Patricio Tapia and Héctor Riquelme, claimed Manso de Velasco 2006 to be the country's Best Red Wine, awarding it 95 points, the highest mark given in Descorchados 2010.

Manso de Velasco 2006 by Miguel Torres was also recognised as the Best Cabernet Sauvignon, adding yet more awards to its international recognition in prestigious competitions and publications abroad.

The distinction received by one of our premium wines fills us with pride as it recognises the most important project for Miguel Torres: producing quality wines. This rating consolidates the work we have been carrying out over all these years”, said Christian Lothholz, General Manager of Miguel Torres S.A.

Miguel Torres' Cabernet, aged in French oak casks for 18 months, starts life at the Fundo San Francisco in Lontué on vines that are 115 years old. Stored under appropriate conditions, it will improve over the next 8 to 10 years.

The guide's tasting notes describe the wine: “Before describing this wine's nose, it would be a good idea for you to try it and reach your own conclusions. It's strange but seductive, original and attractive in character. And it has a good body, lush but always with a strong acidity to balance it out. The 115 year old vines used to make this great Cabernet are responsible for producing all its depth of flavour. A superlative wine in its construction, not a typical delicate or appropriately fruity Cabernet but one that is significantly crazier. That might be why we liked it so much”.

The prizes awarded this year by Descorchados not only included the Best Red Wine and simultaneously the Best Cabernet Sauvignon for Manso de Velasco but its Cordillera line also stood out, awarding 91 points to Cordillera Reserva Privada Cariñena – Merlot – Shiraz and 90 points to Cordillera Reserva Privada Carmènére – Merlot - Petit Verdot.
